Lovie Olivia is a native Houstonian and a visual artist who employs painting, printmaking, and installation to create her works.

″I am consumed with making things. I make therefore I ART - moving my hands until something appears. I make things that resemble drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, installations and conversational pieces.″

As a visual art student at HSPVA, I remember being as fascinated with the materials and tools that made the works as much as I was with the image produced by these materials. They were aesthetically pleasing to me. With my recent body of work I plan to continue to push boundaries and comingle materials and techniques as well as explore stories of powerful women.

My works are at times autobiographical - a blend of self exploration and visual observations. What I experience, desire and witness is communicated through a catalog of figures, symbols materials and subjects.   My subjects are multilayered and so are my visual interpretations of them. By employing the ageless process of fresco and sgraffitto, paper cutting, found objects and encaustic with self developed techniques and experimentations of digital frescos, I fulfill my aesthetic appetite. These combinations and layers of materials continue fuel my obsession for the hand made.  I am a maker, interested in the psychological distance between the viewer and the artwork eagerly paying homage to the makers before me; story makers, homemakers, hand makers, peacemakers, printmakers and art makers.
